Elaine LaBrie comes from the world of contemporary dance. From the beginning of her practice in visual arts she uses her body as a working tool. By considering the work as a process, she seeks to produce forms in action in a constant questioning of the solid, the durable. Pictorial or photographic imprints, traces of ordinary daily gestures, more recently filmed performative actions allow him to interrogate the representation without losing contact with the body.

The sensations and physical qualities inherent in the dancing body, notions such as weight, energy, space and time also guide his multidisciplinary works. By the devices used, ephemeral, or which require the responsibility of the viewer, it seeks to create affective complicities while engaging a reflection on the status of the work of art. His work is characterized by a cross between artistic fields as well as a marked interest in the body, the movement and the trace.

Elaine LaBrie holds a Master's degree in Visual and Media Arts from the Université du Québec à Montréal, a Bachelor's degree in Visual Arts from the University of Paris 1 Panthéon - Sorbonne and a State Diploma from Professor de la dance. She is also an art educator at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.
